About

Story of the founder - Ang Maya Sherpa

It was November 1978. Ang Maya Sherpa opened the 1st trekking trekking shop in Thamel- then yet to become the tourist district of Kathmandu, Nepal. She conducted her business briskly. Her initial clientele were made of both locals and foreigners.

In 1990 after democracy in Nepal there was a huge surge in the demand of trekking and mountaineering clothing. More and more people were going for trekking and mountaineering expeditions than ever before. Mountain Sportswear then started to manufacture goods such as sleeping bags, down jackets, tents, gloves, etc.

Business was brisk because the locally manufactured products were an excellent value for money. More and more foreign importers and INGO (International Non Governmental Organizations) started buying goods from Mountain Sportswear. She had to double the number of employees in order to keep up with demand. Currently, products of Mountain Sportswear are exported to Australia, Britain, Spain, and Germany.

After 30 years of dedication in sportswear goods to people of all walks of life, Mrs. Ang Maya Sherpa and her team are now working on innovative products of Mountain Sportswear to meet the needs of the new millennium.

In recent years Ang Maya Sherpa is actively working to promote the development of Women in poor countries like Nepal and providing direct employment to the poor and needy from rural areas of Nepal.
